The youth who scaled a crane at a construction site here should turn himself in to the police for questioning, said Ipoh OCPD Assistant Commissioner Sum Chang Keong, The Star online reported.
He told a press conference here on Tuesday that a 34-year-old security guard on duty at the construction site had lodged a report regarding the youth’s act of trespassing into the site.
“The complainant had said that he received a message from an Ipoh City Council officer about the youth’s bold act of climbing onto the top of the crane at the site,” said ACP Sum.
ACP Sum said police are still investigating the identity of the youth who climbed the 30m-high crane and recorded the act in a one-minute and 22-second video clip.
The clip shows the youth climbing the crane and sitting down at the top.
It was uploaded on the “Viral Malaysia” Youtube channel on Dec 31 last year.
Asked if the youth was from the same group of eight who scaled the “Ipoh” signboard atop Gunung Lang, he said the youth was not related to the group.
“I am urging those who have a passion for hiking and climbing, please pursue your hobby at a legal site instead of trespassing into gazetted areas and violating the law,” he said.
ACP Sum also urged those with information about the incident to help police in the investigations.
The case is being investigated under Section 336 of the Penal Code for endangering the safety of others and Section 447 of the Penal Code for trespassing.
