Malaysia will have it all to do in their final AFF Suzuki Cup game against Myanmar after they were beaten 1-0 by Vietnam, thanks to a late strike by Nguyen Trong Hoang, in Group B on Wednesday.
Vietnam will need only a draw against Cambodia on Saturday to progress, but will go into the match as firm favourites against the group minnows.
For Malaysia, nothing but three points will suffice against the co-hosts, if they are to qualify for the semifinals.
Ong Kim Swee started this match with a defensive formation.
Shahrul Saad was pushed up into a holding position, alongside Ahmad Fakri Saarani, while Ronny Harun partnered Shahrom Kalam in defence.
It was a ploy intended to frustrate the Golden Stars, who had scored 32 goals, losing only once in 2016.
Both sides made a lethargic start to the game in sizzling conditions at Yangon’s Thuwunna Stadium.
