Deputy Prime Minister Ahmad Zahid Hamidi wants Barisan Nasional (BN) to engage in new media to get closer with the people and win the hearts of new voters.
Zahid said this after thanking BN chairman Najib Razak for appointing him as the deputy chairman for the party.
“Without sidelining the conventional media, including the print and electronic media, BN must use the new media to get close with mid-ground voters who were the determining factors during the general election.
“Umno and BN must be open to the principle of sharing, a strategy where no party machinery would allow any component party to struggle alone.
He added that the new responsibility given by the prime minister is a trust to empower and bring overall BN election machinery effectiveness.
Najib announced the appointment, effective immediately, after chairing the BN Supreme Council meeting in Kuala Lumpur.
Zahid is in New York to lead the Malaysian delegation at the 71st United Nations General Assembly.
