Strategic collaboration between the university community and the rural community is a two-pronged approach to boost the spirit of volunteerism among the students.

The prime minister’s wife, Rosmah Mansor said the collaboration helps rural development through the transfer of science and technology.

“Physical development must be balanced with human capital development. I am impressed by the uniqueness of the programme with the Jelebu community,” she said at the closing of [email protected] programme in Jelebu, Negeri Sembilan.

The agenda to enhance rural development was important as Malaysia move towards developed nation status.

The community should be proud as the government has the vision and mission to build public facilities and infrastructure of quality to ensure sustainable and innovative socio economic activities.

Rosmah said the government never tires of implementing strategies and programmes to improve the economic and social welfare of the rural community.

“We have many initiatives to boost rural development such as 21st Century Kampung Concept and the Rural Business Challenge held in collaboration with the private sector.

“The government has also opened two mini-RTC in Jelebu namely in Gagu and Felcra Lakai,” she added.

Jelebu has a Desa Lestari programme to generate higher income via activities such as homestay and orchards which are popular among foreign tourists. –Bernama
