Umno has taken a new approach to field winnable and likeable candidates in the next general action said Deputy Prime Minister Ahmad Zahid Hamidi.
He said the party will not field warlords who have no winning qualities and would depend on candidates whom voters would find likeable, reported FMT.
Zahid hinted that voters might reject the party if it fielded only those in top leadership positions.
Zahid describes ‘warlords’ are defined as those who held positions in the party and hoped to get ahead politically on the strength of those positions.
Based on past elections, the candidate as a person was the most important factor in determining victory, points out Zahid.
On top of that Umno is also taking several steps to engage more youth to support Umno as many of them are still fence sitters.
