Tanjong Datu in Sarawak will have its by-election on Feb 18, the Election Commission (EC) announced today.
EC chairman Mohd Hashim Abdullah at a press conference in Putrajaya said nomination day has been fixed for Feb 4 while early voting is on Feb 12.
The Sarawak state legislative assembly speaker Mohamad Asfia Awang Nasa notified the EC of the vacancy on Jan 17.
The Tanjong Datu state seat became vacant following the demise of its assemblyman and former Sarawak chief minister Adenan Satem on Jan 11.
Meanwhile, on another note, Mohd Hashim said that there will be no by-election for the Sungai Air Tawar state seat as the vacancy does not affect the Selangor state government.
The seat fell vacant following the death of first-time Umno state rep Kamarol Zaki Abdul Malik.
Kamarol was found dead in his home yesterday morning at 8.30am.
