Police are looking for a Syrian national and his family over what is suspected to be a bag containing a hand-grenade spotted at a hotel room in batu 5, Jalan Pantai, Port Dickson.

Port Dickson Police chief Supt Adzli Abu Shah said police could only establish whether a grenade was indeed in the bag after tracking down the man, in his 30s.

An employee of a hotel in Port Dickson had told police that he saw a grenade in a bag that the man had taken with him after checking out of the hotel, he said.

“When the man was checking out, the hotel employee had gone into the room for the routine check. He saw a bag under the bed and on opening it saw what he thought looked like a grenade,” he said.

“At that time, the guest entered the room and took the bag, he said today.

Supt Adzli also said the family checked-in to the hotel a day earlier and drove a black proton saga but did not have information on the vehicle’s registration number.

“The Police are also looking for clues through the hotel’s CCTV and trying to establish if the family was associated to the Islamic State (ISIS) in Iraq and Syria” he said.

Adzli said police believed the Syrian and his family were still in the country.
