Student activist to show cause over ‘Tangkap MO1’ rally

University Malaya (UM) undergraduate Anis Syafiqah Mohd Yusof was issued a showcause letter for her involvement in ‘Tangkap MO1’ rally.

The student activist and organiser of the rally posted the show cause letter dated Oct 12, 2016 in her Facebook account.

“I had been accused of being involved in activities considered detrimental or prejudicial to the interests, welfare and good name of the university,” Anis wrote on her Facebook page on Monday Oct 17.

The letter signed by UM deputy vice-chancellor of students affairs and alumni Professor Dr Rohana Yusof, ordered Anis to reply within seven days  to justify her actions, failing which, she would face disciplinary action.

The ‘Tangkap MO1’ rally, which was held in Kuala Lumpur on Aug 27 was organised by a coalition of student and youth groups calling for the arrest of the “Malaysian Official No 1“ named by United States’ Department of Justice (DOJ) during a press conference on July 20.

During the rally, police arrested nine individuals, including Anis.
