Bollywood superstar Shah Rukh Khan, who was detained at an American airport, should have displayed patriotic credentials and returned to India after another “insult” in the US, the Shiv Sena said in Mumbai today.
Observing that the “tolerant actor” goes to the US repeatedly, the Sena said if he had decided to return, it would have been a slap on the face of the US.
The Sena was reacting to Khan’s detention at Los Angeles airport, the third time in seven years.
Bollywood star Shah Rukh Khan says he was stopped by authorities on arrival at the airport on Friday.
“I fully understand and respect security with the way the world is, but to be detained at US immigration every damn time really, really sucks,” Khan said on Twitter.
Khan was similarly detained and questioned by US immigration officials in 2009 and 2012.
On Friday morning the US ambassador to India, Richard Verma, offered Khan an apology for his trouble at Los Angeles.
“We are working to ensure it doesn’t happen again. Your work inspires millions, including in the US,” said Verma.
