BATU PAHAT: Every Malaysian citizen should embrace the spirit of patriotism, so that they can dispel any threat from the country’s enemies, says Communications and Multimedia Minister Datuk Seri Salleh Said Keruak.

He said, therefore, the process of inculcating patriotism must be supported by all Malaysians.

“Malaysians must indulge themselves in and support the struggle to adopt, nurture and intensify the patriotic spirit with earnest.

“In fact, national resilience and Malaysian patriotism is not merely (shown) by flying the Jalur Gemilang and singing the National Anthem during the National Day celebration, but to understand, appreciate and practise the spirit of wisdom from the past,”he said in front of some 25,000 people gathered here, last night.

According to him, unwavering allegiance to the country would certainly encourage the spirit of sacrificing oneself for the country.

Salleh added that the spirit of patriotism would also build a sense of unity and togetherness among Malaysians.

In the meantime, he said the value of patriotism embedded in each Malaysian should be the driving force and catalyst for the advancement and prosperity of the country.

“The survival of the nation relies on the willingness of the people to work hard in their respective fields and expertise, to achieve the nation’s vision, especially TN50,”he said.

Also present at the launch were the ministry’s Secretary-General Datuk Seri Dr Sharifah Zarah Syed Ahmad, Malaysian Information Department Director-General Datuk Ibrahim Abdul Rahman as well as State Health, Environment, Education and Information Committee Chairman Datuk Ayub Rahmat, who represented the Johor Menteri Besar.

At the event, Salleh also flagged off the ‘Kembara Merdeka Negaraku’ convoy, comprising 19 vehicles and 60 high-powered motorcycles, which will carry the nationalistic message around the country.

The launch event, organised by the Information Department in collaboration with the Johor state government from Aug 7 to 8, was aimed at enlivening the celebration of the country’s independence, as well as enhancing the spirit of patriotism and love for the country among the people.

Among the highlights of the event were performances by local artistes Akim & the Magistrate, Najwa Latif, Wany Hasrita, Khai Bahar as well as a fireworks show. – Bernama
