The prime minister’s wife Rosmah Mansor presented contributions to 20 foster children of the Association of Wives of Cabinet Ministers and Deputy Ministers (Bakti) in the Pekan Parliamentary constituency at a break-of-fast meal held at the Sri Kenangan official residence in Pekan.
At the event organised by the Pekan district Women’s Institute (WI), Rosmah also handed over contributions to 110 orphans and feted 31 non-governmental organisations in the area.
Before the event, Universiti Sains Islam Malaysia lecturer, Nik Salida Suhaila Nik Saleh gave a talk on the significance of Ramadan on women.
Earlier, Rosmah and Prime Minister Najib Razak spent some time making the bubur lambuk (a type of porridge) to be served to the public at the event.
Pekan WI chairman Melati Ali told reporters at the event that the association appreciated the initiative of the prime minister and wife who showed concern for the needy in the district.
“This welfare programme which has been carried out since 2004 to help the needy and at the same time, fete members of NGOs in the Pekan parliamentary constituency” she said. –Bernama
