Whether serendipitous or an unfortunate turn of events, DAP advisor Lim Kit Siang has now been absolved of the need to make a statutory declaration (SD) to disprove a claim previously put forth by Tunku Abdul Aziz Tunku Ibrahim.

Following a revelation by Pakatan Harapan’s (PH) latest ally Parti Pribumi Bersatu Malaysia (Pribumi) chairman Mahathir Mohamad, Tunku Abdul Aziz said today that the former has now admitted indirectly that Kit Siang would become deputy prime minister and finance minister should the Opposition coalition win in the upcoming general election.

Previously, Tunku Abdul Aziz who is former DAP national vice chairman had claimed there was a secret pact between DAP and Mahathir to make Mukhriz Mahathir the prime minister and Kit Siang his deputy should PH wrest Putrajaya from Barisan Nasional (BN) in GE14.

Subsequently, Tunku Abdul Aziz challenged Kit Siang and Mukhriz to make SDs to prove conclusively they have no such ambitions.

“Thanks to the Mahathir confession, Lim Kit Siang has been absolved of the obligation to make a statutory declaration to disprove my statement,” Tunku Abdul Aziz said at a press conference at the Eastin Hotel in Petaling Jaya today.

“Mahathir has just confirmed that what I said all along is indeed true. That explains why Lim Kit Siang refused to sue me. Instead he chose the coward’s way out and heaped abuse against my personal integrity.

“In the Chinese New Year spirit, therefore, I thank Mahathir for spilling the DAP red beans and letting their cat out of the bag, an act of kindness to me personally, and a total disaster for Lim the father, and Lim the son,” he said, referring to Kit Siang and Penang Chief Minister Lim Guan Eng.

Referring to a report by newsportal AntaraPos in which Mahathir had said DAP never asked for the prime minister post but did ask for the deputy post, Tunku Abdul Aziz said, “I thank Mahathir for confirming what I said on December 31 that a secret deal was done between Mahathir and Kit Siang in which it was agreed between them that in return for his support of Mukhriz as prime minister, Lim’s request to be appointed deputy prime minister and minister of finance would have┬áMahathir’s endorsement.”

Following that, Tunku Abdul Aziz called upon Kit Siang to make a public apology to the media outlets he had threatened to sue for reporting on the claim of the secret pact.

“Mahathir by his own admission of the deal has denied Kit Siang the pleasure of suing anybody. Kit Siang should redeem his depleting moral capital by offering his most sincere and abject apology to all concerned, including me, for his assaults on our reputation,” Tunku Abdul Aziz said.

“The Mahathir confession has reinforced what the prime minister (Najib Razak) said in Baling recently, that in the event of Pakatan winning the next election, then Kit Siang and DAP would be in the driving seat of government, with the rest as mere passengers.

“The dual posts of deputy prime minister and finance minister in one person would make Kit Siang even more powerful than Mukhriz.”

Commenting further, Tunku Abdul Aziz said it was now down to Mukhriz to make a statutory declaration before initiating any legal action.

“His father, Mahathir, might yet spring a surprise by executing another smartish U-turn to save his son. There is no accounting for Mahathir’s deft application of his selective memory at which he is a champion of sorts,” Tunku Abdul Aziz said.

Also at the press conference, when asked to comment about Mahathir, Tunku Abdul Aziz claimed that the only predictable thing about the former premier was his U-turns, hinting at the possibility of more ‘surprises’ in the days to come.

Based on his personal observation of Mahathir, Tunku Abdul Aziz opined that the former thrived on crisis.

“If there is no crisis, he will invent one,” he added.

Yesterday, it was also reported that Mahathir claimed his words were twisted with regards to media reports on DAP having asked for the DPM post.
