PKR’s Pandan MP Rafizi Ramli continues to get brickbats for misleading the public with his perceived wrong cost estimation for the mass rail transit (MRT) project.
Rafizi, who has been roundly criticised by various quarters including Mass Rapid Transit Corp Sdn Bhd (MRT Corp) for his allegedly issuing wrong cost figures, came under fire from Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department Abdul Rahman Dahlan this time.
Rahman called on Rafizi to do his homework and check his facts before spurting his mouth on MRT, blasting the PKR leader for maliciously misleading the public that the construction cost for the MRT project was RM1bill per kilometre.
Rahman said Rafizi had given wrong facts as all news reports clearly quoted Prime Minister Najib Razak as saying that the cost of RM21bil was for the entire MRT 1 project of 51km.
Rahman, who is in charge of the Economic Planning Unit (EPU), said even MRT Corp had clarified that the RM21bil was for the full 51km MRT 1 project, which is RM2bil below the budgeted cost of RM23bil.
He said Rafizi, despite acknowledging his earlier mistake, had blamed MRT Corp for not being clear in its previous statements on the issue.
He said this happened despite the majority of public clearly understanding that the Prime Minister’s statement meant for the entire 51km rail line.
“Rafizi ‘s inability to admit his own mistake while trying to blame others is shocking and irresponsible,” said Rahman, who is also Barisan Nasional strategic communications director, in a statement on Sunday.
