Hishammuddin, who is also the Defence Minister, reminded Umno members not to be too complacent and to consider the weakness of the opposition which was currently divided as a party strength, on the contrary, Umno must continue to be strengthened right up to the grassroots.

Umno members must continue to preserve cordial ties with component parties within the Barisan Nasional (BN) in order to remain strong and relevant, said party vice-president Hishammuddin Tun Hussein.

He said the matter was important in facing the coming general election to ensure that BN candidates won in the seats they were contesting.

“We must ensure that our (Umno) network within the BN component parties is unlike the opposition (where there are splits within the opposition pact)…we are still a viable coalition and this must be protected…within the coalition we must find the best candidate to face the coming election,” he said.

He disclosed this to reporters after opening the Segambut Umno divisional delegates meeting 2016, here today.

Hishammuddin, who is also the Defence Minister, reminded Umno members not to be too complacent and to consider the weakness of the opposition which was currently divided as a party strength, on the contrary, Umno must continue to be strengthened right up to the grassroots.

“Ensure that we are stronger with the space given by them (opposition parties)…they are also in shambles with the creation of new parties, parties are formed based on frustration of the members, due to anger or other considerations,” he added.

Earlier in his speech when opening the meeting, he said Federal Territory Umno must think of the best way to be the party of choice for the younger generation in the area.
