Health Deputy Minister Hilmi Yahaya has assured that patients paying RM1 to received medical treatment at the government hospitals would not be affected by the full paying patient scheme.

Patients who only pay RM1 at government hospitals to seek treatment would not be affected under the Full Paying Patient (FPP) scheme, Health Deputy Minister Hilmi Yahaya assured today.

The Balik Pulau MP said some quarters had misunderstood the implementation of FPP and had claimed that the scheme would end subsidies for patients at government hospitals,

“It is not true that the government would no longer subsidise patients following the FPP implementation.

“If the patients feel they can afford a specialist, then they can pay in full for their treatment, which would still be lower than the private hospitals,” he said.

The FPP scheme was to ensure retention of medical specialists in government hospital and provide them with extra income.

The federal government will allocate RM25 billion to Health Ministry next year, an increase of RM2 billion.
