PKR plans to hold a solidarity gathering to throw support for its imprisoned de facto leader Anwar Ibrahim outside Palace of Justice in Putrajaya next Wednesday.
Speaking to reporters at PKR headquarters, Batu MP Tian Chua said the gathering is in conjunction with the judicial review application Anwar filed against his Sodomy II conviction, which was upheld by the Federal Court in February last year.
Tian Chua who is also the PKR vice-president invited the public to join them in a solidarity support on Oct 12 for Anwar.
Besides supporting the release of Anwar, Tian Chua reiterated that it is also part of demanding a change in the system.
At present Anwar is serving a five year jail sentence after he was convicted of sodomising his former aide Saiful Bukhari Azlan.
Till today, Anwar has maintained his innocence claiming the Sodomy II charge was politically motivated.
The next week’s judicial review is the last legal avenue for Anwar to overturn his conviction.
Tian Chua also maintained the solidarity gathering will be a peaceful one.
He also revealed party state leaders have been instructed to mobilise their members for the gathering.
Even he hoped that comrades from Pakatan Harapan would join in to show the support.
