Sarawak PKR information chief Vernon Aji Kedit is being investigated for making unwarranted and unsavoury comments in a Facebook posting regarding the murder of PKR Miri branch secretary Bill Kayong.

Vernon, who had his statement recorded by police today, is being investigated under Section 500 of the Penal Code for defamation and Section 233 of the Communications and Multimedia Act 1998.

Sarawak criminal investigation department (CID) chief Dev Kumar said Vernon in the posting claimed that Lee was not the real criminal.

“Instead he wrote, the government, YB and Ministers are the real thieves and murderers.”

Vernon indicated that his posting was a rhetorical political statement, which no one would believe.

He expressed regrets that he had used the wrong harsh words, which triggered discomfort when making remarks on social media on the case of slain

“When I said murderous, I am not saying the government is murderous. Maybe, my choice of words was harsh … used the wrong words and caused discomfort. I should not use these words,” he told reporters today.

The post was accompanied by two images related to the arrest Stephen Lee Chee Kiang in connection with the murder.

Lee was charged at the magistrate’s court in Miri on Wednesday with abetting the murder of Kayong, also known as Mohd Hasbie Abdullah.

Dev Kumar said police was not amused with Vernon’s posting as it belittled the police hard work to track down and bring back Lee from China.

“The account holder made false accusations against parties who are in no way connected to the murder,” said the police officer.
