Perak Barisan Nasional (BN) has started to identify the names of potential candidates for the coming 14th general election (GE14), said Perak Menteri Besar Zambry Abd Kadir.
Zambry, who is also Perak BN chairman, said the selection of candidates was divided into two groups, performing candidates and new candidates.
“We are and will continue to evaluate the performance of elected representatives on whether to retain them or otherwise as well as identifying potential candidates including from component parties such as MCA, MIC and Gerakan and others.
“As in the previous term, we will be reactivating the process among parties to look for eligible and well-liked grassroot leaders,” he said.
He told reporters this after attending a ‘Selamat Pagi Perak Bersama Zambry Abdul Kadir’ programme at the Integrated Complex Auditorium at the Multimedia and Communications Ministry in Perak today.
Commenting further, Zambry said so far the names of candidates had been raised by component parties during informal discussions but the matters had not been finalised.
“We are still monitoring and every issue will be discussed in the interest of parties,” he said.
Zambry said Perak BN would be focusing on all 59 state seats contested by BN for the coming general election.
“Apart from the 31 seats (won in GE13) and we also need to focus on constituencies we lost or won narrowly,” he said.
On the action of three Melaka DAP state assemblymen and an MP to quit the party, Zambry said it was not surprising.
He said the internal conflict of the party was not only in Melaka but also in other states.
“The Melaka DAP tiff is like a volcano eruption as it reflected a serious internal crisis being felt in other states as well,” Zambry said. — Bernama
