A joint technical committee between PAS and Parti Pribumi Bersatu Malaysia (Pribumi) would be formed following a meeting between the two parties today.
In the meeting, PAS’ delegation was represented by their deputy president Tuan Ibrahim Tuan Man, while Pribumi’s delegation was represented by their deputy president Mukhriz Mahathir.
Both said the meeting saw both parties reaching an understanding.
“The meeting today refined the framework of political cooperation between PAS and Pribumi in facing GE14 (14th General Election).
“Several positive resolutions were also made in an effort to form a cooperation between the two parties,” PAS and Pribumi said in a joint statement issued by Tuan Ibrahim and Mukhriz.
The framework would later be refined by the top leadership of PAS and Pribumi, to be signed by their respective party presidents at a later date.
Both said the joint technical committee was to facilitate further action following decisions agreed upon by PAS and Pribumi.
The cooperation between PAS and Pribumi has been a much talked about topic of late, with PAS’ Research Centre (PPP) director Mohd Zuhdi Marzuki at one point observing that it was getting difficult.
This came following a claim made by former DAP national vice-chairman Tunku Abdul Aziz Tunku Ibrahim that Pribumi chairman Mahathir Mohamad had entered into a secret pact with Lim Kit Siang in which the DAP adviser would be made deputy prime minister should the Opposition wrest Putrajaya from Barisan Nasional (BN) in GE14.
Mohd Zuhdi had said that if the claim was true, he was confident that PAS would make a stand to not have any ties of cooperation with Pribumi.
