It is straight to court for road users, who abuse emergency lanes or overtake on double lanes when they are caught by authorities during Ops Selamat, reported The Star Online.

The news portal quoted Transport Minister Liow Tiong Lai as saying that there would be “no compromise for errant road users heading back to their hometowns this Chinese New Year”.

He added that Ops Selamat was not about issuing compounds anymore.

“The drivers who commit serious offences like overtaking on double lanes or using the emergency lanes will be taken to court straight away,” he was quoted as saying.

Ops Selamat will be conducted by the Road Transport Department from Jan 21 to Feb 5.
