Penang Gerakan vice-chairman Oh Tong Keong said he did not “attack” Gerakan Deputy Secretary-General Dr Thor Teong Gee following his resignation on Thursday.
Tong Keong said he had only “spoken the truth” and did not tarnish Dr. Thor’s image.
“I did not tarnish his image. I only spoke the truth of what transpired at the meeting between the party president and Jelutong Division in July.
“Dr Thor had again, asked for the Sungai Pinang state seat after the Jelutong meeting with our president during the central working committee (cwc) meeting.
“The president had then reminded him of the objection from the Jelutong Division,”he said in a press conference here today.
Tong Keong said he was offered the seat which he had earlier indicated to Jelutong Division chairman of his desire to contest in Sungai Pinang.
“Our president Mah Siew Keong told Dr Thor to choose other seat,” he said.
Last month Gerakan Jelutong division had a meeting with Mah to resolve their pending issues on the appointment of coordinators for the three constituencies under that division.
During the dialogue, members of the Jelutong Division alleged Dr Thor of being irresponsible and never attended any meeting of the Jelutong division, neither did he participate in any activity at the divisional or state level.
Members also complained to the party president that Dr Thor did not even bother to attend the meeting for selection of coordinators backed up with records showed that his attendance at the state liaison committee meetings was also very low.
Apparently, out of the 25 state meetings called so far, Dr Thor only attended 3 meetings.
Following the incident, Dr Thor tendered his resignation as Gerakan deputy secretary-general, central committee member and Penang Gerakan committee member on Thursday.
Thor claimed the resignation came after Tong Keong had “personally attacked” him in the Chinese newspapers.
