Feeling ‘completely vindicated’, Tunku Abdul Aziz Tunku Ibrahim is also ‘extremely delighted’ with the recent revelation by former Prime Minister Mahathir Mohamad that DAP has in fact asked for the position of deputy, presumably deputy prime minister (DPM), should Pakatan Harapan (PH) wrest Putrajaya from Barisan Nasional (BN) in the upcoming General Election.
Speaking to Malaysia Outlook, the former DAP national vice-chairman said it is now his turn to call DAP advisor Lim Kit Siang, a liar.
Earlier today, AntaraPos reported Mahathir as denying that DAP had asked for the position of PM, but instead admitted they had asked for the position of deputy.
Prior to that, Tunku Abdul Aziz had claimed that DAP and Parti Pribumi Bersatu Malaysia (Pribumi) had entered into a secret pact to make Mukhriz Mahathir the PM and Kit Siang the DPM if PH were to capture Putrajaya in GE14.
Following that, Kit Siang denied the meeting ever took place while Mukhriz urged Tunku Abdul Aziz to reveal his source or face legal action.
Having threatened to sue media outlets that published reports on the secret pact, Kit Siang however told Malay Mail Online that he would not be suing Tunku Abdul Aziz because he was not interested “to waste his time with someone who had lost his respect, trust and credibility”.
“No amount of lies, no amount of running me down by Lim Kit Siang in particular, is going to do their cause any good,” Tunku Abdul Aziz said today.
Responding to Mahathir’s revelation, Tunku Abdul Aziz said, by the former’s own admission, such an arrangement does in fact exist.
“While Lim (Kit Siang) did not ask for the position of PM should PH capture Putrajaya, he did ask, according to Mahathir’s own admission for the position of DPM,” Tunku Abdul Aziz said, adding that he is delighted with the outcome of this event.
When asked if Mahathir is contradicting the very people he is working side by side with by making the admission, Tunku Abdul Aziz opined that the Pribumi chairman is probably having second thoughts now as he has contradicted statements made previously to mislead the public.
Commenting on the alleged secret pact, Tunku Abdul Aziz said, “(He) has let the cat out of the bag. The whole thing now has been blown to pieces.”
The social activist claimed that initially the secret pact was meant to deceive Malay voters.
“They realise if Lim’s (Kit Siang) name or the names of any other non Malay candidates were mentioned for DPM, the Malays won’t support it. So it had to be a secret.
“But now the truth is that there was a secret arrangement,” he added.
With regards to Kit Siang denying the meeting ever took place, Tunku Abdul Aziz claimed this was tantamount to saying Mahathir was a liar.
“What conclusion can you draw from this?” Tunku Abdul Aziz asked.
“Pakatan Harapan is not working in concert. What kind of government are they likely to form when they are constantly at loggerheads, and disagreeing with one another. This is a bad sign for the nation if they come into power,” he said.
Meanwhile, DAP secretary-general Lim Guan Eng in responding to Mahathir’s revelation denied the party had made the request to be given the DPM post.
“We have never made such a request and our only stand is for PKR adviser Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim to be the prime minister,” he was quoted as saying by The Star Online.
Previously, Tunku Abdul Aziz challenged Mukhriz and Kit Siang to respond to his claim by making statutory declarations (SD) to prove they have no ambitions to become PM and DPM.
