Parti Pribumi deputy president Mukhriz Mahathir (right) has discussed with his lawyers to proceed with legal action against Tunku Abdul Aziz.

Unlike DAP advisor Lim Kit Siang who previously said he did not want to ‘waste his time’ on a legal suit against Tunku Abdul Aziz Tunku Ibrahim, former Kedah Menteri Besar Mukhriz Mahathir has discussed with his lawyers to proceed with legal action against the former national vice-chairman of DAP.

Speaking to Malay daily Sinar Harian, Mukhriz, who is now the deputy president of Parti Pribumi Bersatu Malaysia (Pribumi) was confident he was on the right side, stating that if it was otherwise, he would not proceed with legal action against Tunku Abdul Aziz.

“This legal action serves as a reminder to certain quarters not to make assumptions based on personal interest.

“Whatever we (Pribumi) are doing now is just to save the country,” he said.

On Dec 30, 2016, at a press conference at the Eastin Hotel in Petaling Jaya, Tunku Abdul Aziz claimed that DAP and Pribumi had entered into a secret pact to make Mukhriz the prime minister and Kit Siang the deputy prime minister if Pakatan Harapan captured Putrajaya in the next general election.

Kit Siang has denied the meeting ever took place while Mukhriz urged Tunku Abdul Aziz to reveal his source or else face legal action.

However, on Jan 6, Malay Mail Online reported that Kit Siang has instructed his lawyers to start legal proceedings against Utusan Malaysia, New Straits Times and any other media outlets that publish “fake news” about the alleged “secret pact”.

When questioned further if he would also sue Tunku Abdul Aziz who made the claim, Kit Siang said: “I have no interest in wasting my time on the person who said it as he had lost all respect, honour and credibility as to deserve any attention”.

Last week, speaking to Malaysia Outlook, Tunku Abdul Aziz repeated his challenge to Kit Siang and Mukhriz to respond to his challenge by making statutory declarations (SD) as a means of proving conclusively that they both have no ambitions to become PM and DPM.

“If they make these SDs, then they are welcomed to take legal action against me,” he had said.
