The police have taken Bersih committee chairman Maria Chin Abdullah and its manager Mandeep Singh to Petaling Jaya police station today evening for further questioning.
In the latest Bersih tweet, it is stated that “Police have confiscated 10 laptops, payroll, bank statements. They’re taking Maria and Mandeep too.”
According to sources, a team from the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) will record statements from Maria and Mandeep.
It is learnt that they will be investigated under Section 124C of the Penal Code.
Section 124C refers to committing activity detrimental to parliamentary democracy which is punishable by imprisonment for a period that can extend to 15 years.
Earlier today afternoon, a team from the Bukit Aman police and Registrar of Company (ROC) officers jointly raided Bersih office situated at Petaling Jaya.
It also believed the police will investigate the Bersih committee on the alleged funds received from foreign NGOs.
Bersih is registered under ROC with the name ‘Bersih & Adil Network Sdn Bhd’ to carry out their activities.
