Penang-led DAP government has failed miserably to spur the growth of the state manufacturing sector, which had provided employment to Penangites and many more talented Malaysians for decades.
In saying this, Penang Barisan Nasional (BN) and Gerakan chairman Teng Chang Yeow called on Chief Minister Lim Guan Eng to “stop blowing his own trumpet” to claim credit for non-existent achievements.
Teng in a statement today said the previous Gerakan-led BN state government’s efforts transformed manufacturing industry as the state’s main economy pillar from 1970 until DAP took over in 2008.
“DAP didn’t have any Industrial master plan and strategic development blueprint,” he said, adding that the previous BN government had implemented Penang Strategic Development Plan 1 & 2, unlike DAP.
According to statistics sourced from Malaysian Statistics Department, the gross domestic product (GDP) of Penang’s manufacturing sector grew by RM4,125 million in value from 2005 to 2007.
Manufacturing sector recorded a GDP value of RM21,249 million in 2005, RM24,429million in 2006 and RM25,374 million in 2007, posting a 19% growth rate or 10% annual average rate.
From 2008-2013 under DAP rule, GDP value for manufacturing sector was RM26,348 million in 2008, RM21,239million in 2009, RM24,264million in 2010, RM24,567 million in 2011, RM25,411 million in 2012 and RM26,301million in 2013.
“Guan Eng should stop blowing his own trumpet as he has no great achievements.
“The state government led by him has performed badly since 2008. He has failed to manage the manufacturing sector as one of the main economy pillars of Penang, bringing down the growth of the sector from 10% annual growth under BN to zero growth under DAP,” hit out Teng.
He said BN would soon launch a series of exposure on Guan Eng’s “bullshits, lies and misleading achievements that the chief minster had claimed.”
