The Kuala Lumpur High Court increased the jail sentence imposed on a father of two from 10 to 15 years for raping his best friend’s daughter.
Judge Azman Abdullah passed the sentence today after allowing the prosecution’s appeal to increase the sentence on J. Ravichandran, 43, a security supervisor, imposed by the Sessions Court.
However, Azman retained the five lashes imposed on Ravichandran by the Sessions Court after finding him guilty of raping a girl aged 15 years 11 months four years ago.
Azman made the decision after considering that at the time of the incident, the victim was under aged, the trust her parents had of him when they left her in his care, and the trauma she experienced.
However, he allowed the request from counsel Hisyam Teh Poh Teik who represented the accused to delay the sentence until an appeal had been filed at the Appeals Court, and the RM20,000 bail was maintained. – Bernama
