Malaysian hotels celebrate winning 19 awards at the coveted Hospitality Asia Platinum (Hapa) Regional Awards 2016-2018 with an Oscar-style awards presentation and a gala charity dinner at the Berjaya Times Square Hotel recently.
The Hapa awards are a key event in the hospitality and service industry for Asian countries.
Undoubtedly hotels play an important role in welcoming visitors and tourists, and directly affect a customer’s impression of the establishment.
In 2002, Hapa’s founder Jennifer Ong conceptualised the award series to acknowledge and recognise the men and women in the industry who make a significant difference in hospitality excellence.
These people go the extra mile in the performance of their daily duty.
Last year marked Hapa’s 13th anniversary of the regional awards, which now include properties and personalities from Malaysia, Singapore, Indonesia, Thailand, Vietnam and the Philippines.
“The objective of introducing a new face to the Hapa awards is to connect the awards programme to the people in the industry.
“The human element is something that goes hand-in-hand with outstanding hospitality achievement.
“Hapa awards honours and pay tribute to those who have excelled exceptionally through dedication, commitment and performance,” said Ong.
The Hapa awards have created a platform for the industry players to benchmark, improve, keep in tune with industry trends, new challenges, and, ultimately to enhance the levels of service among hospitality practitioners.
Hapa recognises and rewards the finest achievements in the hospitality industry at all levels.
It focuses on the people and the establishments that strive to deliver an elevated experience through dedication and passion across the spectrum of hospitality segments, including travel, spa, food and entertainment.
Five hotels in Malaysia, which are part of Marriott International, Inc., were bestowed with several awards in a dozen different categories.
The awards ceremony paid tribute to the hotels’ unmatched levels of service excellence which were assessed by experienced industry auditors against a benchmark of exacting standards of hospitality.
