“This is a childish political play.”
This was what DAP advisor Lim Kit Siang had to say in responding to a call made by the Prime Minister’s press secretary Tengku Sariffuddin Tengku Ahmad for him to make a statutory declaration (SD) to deny he had ambitions of becoming deputy prime minister (DPM).
“I want to ask him, who instructed him to issue such a statement, to ask for a SD? He is talking as if it is a great crime for anyone to have hopes of becoming deputy prime minister or prime minister (PM) of Malaysia,” Lim was quoted as saying by Free Malaysia Today.
Earlier today, Tengku Sariffuddin said it was crucial and timely for Kit Siang to explain to Malaysians his reluctance to admit his political ambition to be the DPM and finance minister if Pakatan Harapan (PH) wins the next general election (GE14).
Sarifuddin also questioned on whether it was true that the reason Kit Siang approached PAS recently was to secure the Islamic-based party endorsement for his desire to be the DPM.
“Lim Kit Siang needs to come clean on this, as it is the right of Malaysians to know who they will be ruled by if they vote Pakatan.
“It is only fair for the people to know if it is true,” said Sarifuddin in a statement today.
Previously, former DAP national vice-chairman Tunku Abdul Aziz Tunku Ibrahim claimed there was a secret pact between former Premier Mahathir Mohamad and Kit Siang of which Mukhriz Mahathir would be made PM and Kit Siang the deputy should PH win Putrajaya in GE14.
Tunku Abdul Aziz had also challenged both Mukhriz and Kit Siang to make a statutory declaration that they had no desire to hold the posts of PM and DPM, respectively.
Tengku Sariffuddin in his statement today demanded Kit Siang to heed to Tunku Abdul Aziz’s challenge to make a statutory declaration if the allegation on him to become the DPM was not true.
