Deputy Prime Minister Ahmad Zahid Hamidi has urged Umno members and the public to attend a rally at Titiwangsa Stadium this Sunday to show their support and solidarity against the oppression of the Rohingyas.
He said the peaceful rally would also be a show of protest against the extreme hatred of certain parties towards Muslims.
“Let us show our solidarity for the Muslims in Myanmar,” he said at the launch of the Wanita, Youth and Puteri General Assembly 2016, here tonight.
The rally organised by Muslim non-governmental organisations (NGO) is expected to begin at 8am.
Zahid said although Myanmar had produced a Nobel prize winner, the bloodshed continued in that country.
“When she has the power, she (Aung San Suu Kyi) seems to be forgotful.”
He said Sungai Besar Umno division chief Jamal Md Yunos who headed an NGO, promised to bring 20,000 people to the rally.
The Rohingyas who are Muslims are reported to be oppressed, leading to thousands fleeing their country to avoid the atrocities against them, reportedly involving the Myanmar military.
