Jamal Yunos, nine others charged for rioting, insulting behaviour

Red Shirt leader Jamal Yunos and nine others were charged at the Sessions Court in Ampang yesterday with two counts of insulting behaviour and rioting that happened last year.

They have all pleaded not guilty and claimed trial.

Jamal, together with Reza Jamin, 37, Ariffin Abu Bakar, 47, Mohd Shabudin Abu Hassan, 47, Izzrul Idris, 32, Hasannen Zikri Harizan, 24, Mohd Faiz Amirul Mahsan, 22, Mohd Yusoff Mohd Sharif, 26, Abd Razak Hassan, 29, and R. Balaguru, 30, were named in a charge as members of an illegal assembly and for having used violence when carrying out their purpose.

They were charged under Section 147 of the Penal Code for rioting.

The 10 were also accused of acting aggressively by breaking through a police barricade for the purpose of stirring anger and causing public disturbance.

They were charged for this under Section 14 of the Minor Offences Act for insulting behaviour.

They were said to have committed both offences at Ampang Point shopping mall at 4pm on Nov 13 last year.

DPP Muhammad Iskandar Ahmad headed the prosecution team, while Jamal and others were represented by lawyer Izzat Zabir Sariff, assisted by Khairul Anuar Yusoff.

Judge Rushan Lutfi Mohamed set bail at RM3,000 in one surety each and set May 3 for mention.
