Four policemen were charged with corrupt practices at the Penang Sessions Court today.

All four claimed trial before Judge Roslan Hamid.

Corporal Jeffry Abdullah, 36, was charged with receiving RM1,000 bribe from one Noor Esmawati Baharom as an inducement for not to take action against her relative, who was tested positive for drugs, NST Online reported.

Three others — Lance Corporal Muhammad Farid Nordin, 28, Lance Corporal Mohd Zulkifly Mat Nor, also 28, and Constable Zainoor Ariffin Rosli, 24, — are jointly charged with another still at large with soliciting a RM10,000 bribe from one Norhamni Haron so as not to take action against him, who was caught with drugs possession.

Deputy Public Prosecutor Ahmad Ghazali Mohd Nordin asked bail to be set at RM10,000 for each of the accused due to the severity of the offence.

Counsel V. Parthipan, representing all four accused, urged the court to lower bail, saying his clients could not afford to pay the RM10,000 as each and have their own families to take care of.

Roslan then set bail at RM8,000 for each of the accused and fixed Feb 17 for mention.
