Former councillor files suit against MBPP following termination

GEORGE TOWN: Former Penang Island Municipal (MBPP) councillor Noor Syazwani Md Amin who was terminated from work in April filed a suit against her former employer and three other parties at the Penang High Court over her dismissal.

Her lawyer, Datuk Dr Aswandi Mohamed Hashim said in her statement of claim, Noor Syazwani, 30, filed six claims against MBPP, MBPP Mayor, MBPP Secretary and the State Secretarial Office.

He added that in the writ of summons, Noor Syazwani is claiming for all the defendants to pay her outstanding monthly allowance of RM32,000.

“My client is also claiming for, among others a RM50,000 compensation following the distress endured by her after she was sacked as MBPP councillor without any valid reason on April 19,” he told reporters after the suit was filed.

Noor Syazwani was removed by the state government on without any reason given for her termination.

The first-term councillor was appointed in January this year.

State Local Government committee chairman Chow Kon Yeow was reported as saying that said the termination was in accordance with Section 10(4) of the Local Government Act. – MO
