Employers will be responsible to pay the levy of foreign workers beginning January 1, said the Home Ministry.
Home Minister Ahmad Zahid Hamidi said that employers would no longer be able to deduct the wages of their foreign workers for the levy, The Star online reported.
This new ruling comes under an Employer Mandatory Commitment (EMC), aimed to ensure that employers are fully responsible for their foreign workers.
Zahid said the commitment would be in effect from the application stage right up until the foreign worker is sent back to their country of origin.
“The Government will also introduce the undertaking letter which will underline the responsibilities and requirements to be fulfilled by employers in the near future,” he said in a statement on Saturday.
