The East Coast Rail Line (ECRL) which connects Pengkalan Kubor, here with Port Klang in Selangor is expected to reduce traffic congestion especially during festive seasons in this state.
Kelantan Federal Action Council (MTPNK) chairman Mustapa Mohamed said therefore he was calling on the government to expedite the construction of ECRL in the state to facilitate the people travelling back to their hometowns in future.
“Travellers are fervently awaiting the construction of the ECRL.
“We hope ECRL can be implemented as soon as possible to enable Kelantan residents living in other states to return home within a shorter time and overcome the problem of traffic congestion,” he said.
He told reporters this after attending a Yayasan Tabung Haji Kaseh Ziarah programme at Pondok Moden, Jeli yesterday.
A total of 3,000 residents in the Jeli parliamentary constituency received tithes and contributions amounting to between RM100 and RM300 each.
The ECRL project covering 600km will link the Klang Valley with the East Coast via a network of railway services through Port Klang, Gombak Integrated Transport Terminal (ITT), Bentong, Mentakab, Kuantan, Kemaman, Kerteh, Kuala Terengganu, Jelawat in Bachok and ending in Pengkalan Kubor, Tumpat. –Bernama
