DAP assemblyman for Tanjung Bungah questioned the Penang government on allowing Lim Guan Eng to remain as chief minister of the state despite facing corruption charges.
Teh Yee Cheu said the right thing to do was to ask Guan Eng to go on temporary leave pending the outcome of his trial.
Bernama reported as Teh questioning this when debating the state’s Budget 2017 in the Penang Assembly on Tuesday.
Guan Eng is facing corruption charges pertaining to purchase of a bungalow at below market price and a land deal.
Meanwhile, Muhammad Farid Saad (BN-Pulau Betong) when debating the budget lambasted the state Public Accounts Committee for not including recommendations made by the BN assemblymen in it and even from PKR, a partner in the DAP-led Penang government, on the undersea tunnel project to link the island with the mainland as well as three highway projects mooted for the state.
The PAC report on the controversial projects was tabled at the current sitting of the state assembly after having been postponed twice.
