Cops injured after coming under attack during raid

Johor Bahru Utara police chief ACP Mohd Taib Ahmad said from the eight reports, three of the victims (two men and a woman) had suffered losses amounting to RM35,200.

An inspector and two constables were injured when a man assaulted and stabbed them during a raid at an online gaming premises in Jalan Pasar, Bukit Mertajam yesterday.

Seberang Perai Tengah District police chief ACP Nik Ros Azhan Nik Abdul Hamid said in the 11.30pm incident, Inspector M. Ganesh, 56, and Constable G. Vivegananthan, 26, sustained minor injuries on their right hands while Constable Mohamad Khusairi Ahamad, 22, was injured in his right thigh due to being
stabbed.

“During the operation, police ordered two men and a women to take urine tests after they were found behaving in a suspicious manner. At that time, one of the men tried to escape on foot.

“There was a scuffle between the suspect and one of the policemen along the way before he (the suspect) took out a long knife believed to have been tucked in his waist,” he said today.

Nik Ros Azhan said the man, aged 30, attempted to stab one of the policemen in the neck but the victim managed to avoid, but the weapon landed on his hand.

“At the same time, the police officer and the other constable who tried to help were also injured,” he said, adding that the suspect then fled the scene via the rooftop of the building.

Subsequently, police detained the woman, aged 32, who is also the suspect’s wife, and seized a motorcycle used by the couple, which is believed to be stolen.

Nik Ros Azhan said one of the policeman who was stabbed was being treated at the Seberang Jaya Hospital while the two others received outpatient treatment at the same hospital.
