Sungai Besar Umno Division chief Jamal Md Yunos has been arrested by the police.
He was taken to the Ampang Jaya district police headquarters at 3.10pm.
Ampang Jaya district police chief ACP Hamzah Alias told Malaysia Outlook that the Red Shirts leader was being investigated under Section 395 of the Penal Code for robbery.
On whether he would be charged tomorrow, Hamzah said, “Not yet. Pending completion of investigation.”
Including Jamal, 10 have been arrested with regard to this case, said Hamzah.
Reporters were earlier on standby outside the police station following news reports that policemen were waiting outside Jamal’s house in Ampang.
While Jamal was scheduled to have a press conference outside the Ampang Jaya police headquarters at 3pm, the Red Shirts leader told The Star Online earlier that he did not know why there were policemen outside his house.
“I had already made an appointment with the police and told them I will be at the police station by 3pm,” he had said, speaking to the newsportal from inside his house.
Saying he would cooperate with the police, the Red Shirts leader said he was prepared to be arrested as long as the issue of illegal gambling was addressed.
Jamal made headlines in December last year when he began to highlight the problem of illegal gambling spots in Selangor by conducting his own ‘raids’.
