Sarawak governor Abdul Taib Mahmud has praised the Chinese community for showing unwavering loyalty to the state and country besides playing a pivotal role in the socio-economic development of Sarawak and Malaysia.
Taib paid tribute to the Chinese community adding that the nation would not be what it is today without them.
He added that no one can deny the fact that the Chinese have contributed enormously to every sector of development, told this at a grand Chinese New Year dinner organised by the Chinese associations in Miri on Sunday night.
They have also been central in helping to uphold racial and religious harmony, he said.
“The Chinese people are an integral part of our state and country.
“Without them, we will not be as prosperous as we are today in Sarawak and Malaysia. The impact they have made in social and economic growth is there for all to see.
“Aside from that, the Chinese people have always been loyal to the state and federal government. That is also a fact that we can all see,” he said as The Star Online reported.
He even praised the Chinese community for playing an active role in government administration and further urged them to continue keeping faith in the leadership.
