The Welfare Association of Wives of Ministers and Deputy Ministers (Bakti) today handed over aid amounting to RM88,000 to 437 flood-affected families in Langkap, Terengganu.
Bakti president Rosmah Mansor, who is the wife of the prime minister, presented the cash and essential goods to the villagers from Kampung Pelong, Kampung Sungai Tong, Kampung Langkap, Kampung Banggol Stor, Kampung Bukit Nenas, Kampung Tayor Tengah, Kampung Desa Jaya, Kampung Pok Ba, Kampung Bukit Nyior and Kampung Tok Nandung.
Terengganu Menteri Besar Ahmad Razif Abd Rahman and his wife Halina Zakaria, Langkap state assemblyman Sabri Mohd Nor and his wife, as well as other Terengganu elected representatives, attended the event, held at Sekolah Kebangsaan Pelong.
Rosmah spoke to the villagers, enquiring about their welfare and listening to their grouses about the loss of property during the recent floods.
Sabri, when approached by reporters, said the state government had also provided RM11,000 to repair three badly damaged houses in Kampung Pelong.
Aid recipient Khairil Bariah Razali, 45, said she was touched by the presence of Rosmah at the event.
“She has come a long way to Kampung Pelong to see how the people are faring following the floods. I hope the wives of other leaders would emulate her example,” she said to Bernama.
Harun Said, 80, said he did not expect to see Rosmah whom he had met in Pekan, Pahang, about 30 years ago.
“Today is a special day for me. Besides getting aid from Bakti, I was able to meet Datin Seri after such a long time,” he said. – Bernama
