An assistant manager of an English newspaper has been remanded for six days to assist in investigation into a bribery case amounting to RM70,000.

According to a report by Utusan Online, the Putrajaya Magistrate’s Court allowed an application for remand by the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) beginning today until June 5.

In quoting a statement by the MACC, Utusan Online reported that the 54-year-old assistant manager was suspected of having solicited a bribe of RM70,000 from a VIP.

The bribe was allegedly for the suspect to get MACC to ‘settle’ a case it was investigating involving the VIP.

Utusan Online said it was believed that the suspect claimed he had contacts within the MACC capable of ‘settling’ the said case.
