Prime Minister Najib Razak has called on the people to appreciate and be grateful for the contributions and sacrifices of security personnel and civil servants in maintaining order during festive seasons.
Najib in his latest entry on his blog www.najibrazak.com said people should not forget those who could not be with their families for the sake of carrying out their duties during festive periods.
“Royal Malaysia Police (PDRM) personnel in charge of traffic, the Malaysian Armed Forces (ATM) protecting the country’s borders and sovereignty, also helping out flood victims, the Malaysian Fire and Rescue Department which is always ready to face any disaster, along with the National Disaster Management Agency, doctors and government hospital staff, and many others.
“Appreciation is also due to the Road Transport Department (JPJ) and Malaysian Land Public Transport Commission (SPAD) who monitor and regulate public transport services to avoid tragic accidents and loss of life,” he said.
Najib said special operations like these should be held more often.
He also touched on the Malaysian Maritime Enforcement Agency (MMEA) and other related agencies currently conducting the search and rescue mission for victims of the boat capsize tragedy in Sabah waters on Saturday.
“I pray that the search mission is successful, God willing,” he said.
In the incident, a catamaran carrying 28 Chinese tourists and three crew members capsized while travelling to Pulau Mengalum, about 58 kilometres northwest of Kota Kinabalu, due to strong winds and huge waves.
So far, 22 victims including 20 Chinese tourists and two crew members have been rescued.
