The hunt for Asia’s next top model (AsNTM) continues as the show announced its Season 5 lineup recently.
Made up of 14 hopefuls, the show’s latest season, or cycle, also includes two Malaysians.
Alicia Amin, with the tagline of ‘Girl Gone Wild’ for AsNTM’s Cycle 5, is a model in Melbourne, Australia as well as Malaysia.
On a talent directory website, Alicia, 22, said she was of Malay-German ethnicity and possessed some years of editorial and catwalk experience.
On her Twitter account, Alicia gave a shoutout to her followers following the announcement of AsNTM’s line-up, “Just a quick shoutout to everyone who’s been showing me love and support in light of current events. I promise to keep making good art.”
Malaysia’s other representative is Shikin Gomez, 24, who is going by the tagline ‘The New Tradition’.
“Shikin considers herself a woman of the new age, unapolegetically pursuing her modelling career despite coming from a traditional family,” read the introduction of her biography on AsNTM’s website.
Shikin, or her full name Nurfashikin Mohd Faisal Gomez was the winner of the Malaysia Supermodel Search 2015, organised by the Amber Chia Academy Sdn Bhd.
Alicia and Shikin will compete against Anjelica Santillan (the Philippines), Cindy Chan (Taiwan), Clara Tan (Indonesia), Dorothy Petzold (Thailand), Heidi Grods (Thailand), Jennica Sanchez (the Philippines), Layla Ong (Singapore), Maureen Wroblewitz (the Philippines), Nametha R (Singapore), Minh Tu Nguyen (Vietnam) and twins Valerie Krasnadewi and Veronika Krasnadewi from Indonesia.
Malaysians who competed in AsNTM in the previous seasons were Melissa Thang, Josephine Tan, Shareeta Selvaraj, Melissa Tan and Tuti Md Noor.
Sheena Liam, meanwhile became the first, and stil the only Malaysian to win the competition, coming in first in the show’s second Cycle.
