Prime Minister Najib Razak said the Yang di-Pertuan Agong had explained to Dr Mahathir Mohamad that the palace could not interfere in political efforts initiated by Parti Pribumi Bersatu Malaysia (PPBM).
Najib revealed that the King, Tuanku Abdul Halim Mu’adzam Shah, had also explained to Mahathir that Pribumi political initiatives were unconstitutional.
Prime Minister Najib said he had been informed by the King about the royal audience granted to Mahathir, who is also PPBM advisor, last week.
“At the meeting, the King had taken note of the issues raised by Dr Mahathir but the Yang di-Pertuan Agong explained to Dr Mahathir that he could not interfere in the efforts made by PPBM,” Najib said in a statement on Wednesday.
“The King also explained to Dr Mahathir that the declaration made by PPBM did not comply with the Federal Constitution and any action should be according to the normal practice, which is through Parliament and the election system.”
Last Wednesday the Pribumi leader had an audience with the King to submit a ‘Citizen’s Declaration’ for the royal consent to remove Prime Minister Najib.
Mahathir has also allegedly submitted to the King a mere 45 signatures of Malaysian citizens to back his demand.
The audience lasted for almost an hour.
