Bukit Bendera MP Zairil Khir Johari and DAP Youth committee member Dyana Sofya have been urged to make a police report and allow authorities to investigate, if the duo felt that the photos were fake and they were being frame.

Gerakan Publicity Bureau chief Ooi Zhi Yi said this with regards to several photos which have gone viral recently showing two individuals in close proximity at a restaurant, alleged to be Zairil and Dyana.

Zairil denied he was the individual in the photos in a response to The Star Online, claiming that it was an attempt to malign him with personal attacks.

In reacting to the matter, Ooi said Penang Gerakan were against any forms of personal attacks and gutter politics, stating that if actions were not taken against the culprits, it was akin to allowing them to roam freely and indirectly encouraging them to conduct even more personal attacks.

“How can we allow such attacks and actions to be done freely?” Ooi said, in urging the duo to lodge a police report against the matter.

“If Zairil feels the attack is politically motivated, then he should make the police report. No matter who is the culprit, Penang Gerakan would condemn such actions and would never condone gutter politics.

“There have been so many incidences of such photos and videos that were purportedly Zairil and Dyana Sofya share on social media and messaging applications. But neither one of them has made any police report,” Ooi said at a press conference today.

He added that since one of them is a lawmaker and the other a law graduate, they have to make sure laws were adhered to and action taken against (the culprits) according to the law.

“Why didn’t they make any police report? Could it be true? If the photos and videos are true, then make clear of the incident once and for all to shut off everyone. Be A Man!” Ooi said.

He called on them to not drag the issue and keep blaming the case as politically motivated.

“We want our politics to grow in a matured manner and not the other way around. We must not accept personal attacks and gutter politics to happen in any way. Therefore, I would like to reiterate that Penang Gerakan does not condone such behaviour and we must shape a new generation of politicians that promotes a new era of politics,” Ooi added.

Also in attendance at the press conference was Bukit Bendera Gerakan Youth deputy chief Khaw Poh Chung.

Earlier, Penang DAP chairman Chow Kon Yeow said Zairil met with him and Penang Chief Minister Lim Guan Eng yesterday to explain himself and had asked he be allowed to settle the matter by himself for the time being.
