KUALA LUMPUR: PKR vice president Nurul Izzah Anwar will be contesting in Permatang Pauh while her mother, Dr Wan Azizah Wan Ismail, will move to a Klang Valley seat.
According to The Star Online, PKR secretary-general Datuk Saifuddin Nasution Ismail said the party wanted the Permatang Pauh candidate to be from Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim’s family as the Penang parliamentary seat, which had been in Anwar’s family since 1982, was a PKR fortress.
“An announcement will be made soon,” Saifuddin was quoted as saying.
He also reportedly said his party had several “safe” seats where the two could also be moved, such as Pandan.
Saifuddin was reported to have said he would run in the Kulim-Bandar Baharu parliamentary seat in Kedah and a state seat in Penang.
He declined to confirm which Penang state seat he would contest, only that it could be the Pantai Jerejak seat currently held by caretaker Penang Deputy Chief Minister I Datuk Mohd Rashid Hasnon.
Nurul Izzah is the incumbent Lembah Pantai MP, but PKR communications director Fahmi Fadzil is expected to contest the seat.
Dr Wan Azizah, the incumbent Permatang Pauh MP, is also the incumbent Kajang assemblyman.
Anwar, the PKR de facto leader, is still serving his prison sentence for sodomy and is expected to be released in June.
