BALIK PULAU: Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak says toll on Penang bridge will be scraped for motorcyclists if Barisan Nasional succeeds in recapturing Penang in the coming election.
He said the promise was in addition to the special manifesto for Penangites, the allocation of 65,000 affordable homes as previously announced.
At present, motorcyclists pay RM1.40 when they use the Penang Bridge.
Najib also promised to increase the number of affordable houses if BN managed to wrest back Penang.
The Prime Minister said so in his speech at the rakyat programme in SMK Seri Balik Pulau here today.
“We have proven through our track record that we are a government that delivers what it has promised and not only make empty promises.
‘As a federal government in charge of the country’s administration, nobody can refute our track record, which is excellent in managing and developing our country and determining a better future.
“Some leaders say they want to save Malaysia but to save from what? The problems they created themselves?” said Najib before thousands despite it being a working day.
Najib assured that the country was now doing better than what it was when it was under a certain individual’s 22-year leadership.
“He said he wanted to save Malaysia from increased highway tolls but who created the toll system? Who is The Father of Highway Tolls?” quipped the Prime Minister to the audience’s laughter.
He also criticized the unrealistic promise of toll abolition as it would cause the country RM380 billion.
“At least I don’t increase tolls, I reduce them,” said Najib.
Najib also reminded Penangites to vote for BN if they wanted better planned development for Penang.
“For now I make small approvals first until we get back Penang, I will ensure the bigger ones will be carried out,” he said.
