Grateful Muar folks build replicas using BN flags

MUAR: It is a common sight during the election season where contesting candidates exhibit their respective campaign materials in the form of posters, banners and party flags to attract the attention of the public.

The villagers of Kampung Sungai Balang Laut, however, created a replica of a yacht using Barisan Nasional (BN) flags to show support for the coalition.

Fisherman, Nor Azmi Penang, 41, told Bernama recently that he and fellow fishermen were assisted by ten friends from BN to build the replica, measuring 19 x 20 metres, voluntarily since mid-March and it was expected to be completed next week.

He said he chose the shape of the yacht because the object was close to himself and his fishing community.

He said they spent about RM300 to complete the replica as a gift to the BN for GE14.

This was the fourth time he had built a replica as a campaign material for BN since the 11th general election in 2004, he added.

Meanwhile, 63-year-old Omar Sidek, or better known as Pak Uban, said he built a replica of an armoured vehicle using bamboos and BN flags to attract the attention of the people who passed through his front yard at Lorong Hassan Ya’acob, Sungai Balang Laut, Muar.

“I got the idea of replicating the armoured vehicle to symbolise the BN’s determination to “gun down” the opposition in GE14,” he said, adding that he and his children took about a week to complete the replica at a cost of only RM20.

“All my seven children are successful in life and they all have permanent job as a result of free education provided by the government and I am truly indebted to BN,” he said. – Bernama
