PETALING JAYA: Datuk Seri Ti Lian Ker has slammed Penang chief minister Lim Guan Eng for saying that he respects Umno ministers but not MCA ministers.
“After degrading Umno leaders and (former prime minister) Dr Mahathir with all kinds of names and spewing venom, Lim is now saying that he respected Umno ministers but not MCA ministers,” Ti said in a statement yesterday.
He urged DAP and Lim to admit that they were “opportunistic” in their remarks as they were only interested in eliminating and replacing MCA.
Ti waas responding to reports claiming that Lim would rather debate ministers from Umno than MCA as the party held more seats in Parliament.
Ti said despite Lim’s attempts to demonise MCA for being associated with Umno, it was through the wisdom of Umno, MCA and MIC leaders that the country was able to successfully bridge racial divides.
“It was through this umbrella of sincere political comradeship and cooperation that Alliance and later Barisan Nasional have successfully safeguarded racial harmony and unity.”
He also blamed DAP for destroying MCA in the eyes of the Chinese through its toxic politics, lies, fake news and false promises, adding that DAP had achieved its desire to replace MCA in mostly Chinese majority seats. However, he said the party’s wins were not based on “services or principles”.
“DAP has gained at the expense of the Chinese community’s political representation in the government in a political environment where race and religious issues are getting more delicate by the day.”
