GEORGE TOWN: Penang Chief Minister Lim Guan has been sued by Baling MP Datuk Seri Abdul Azeez Abdul Rahim after Lim failed to apologise for linking him to the Penang undersea tunnel project.
The writ of summons was served by Azeez’s lawyer, Datuk Seri Jahaberdeen Mohamed Yunoos at Lim’s office here earlier today.
“We are also seeking an injunction to stop Lim from continuing to issue such slanderous statements against my client
“I’ve been instructed by my client to serve this summons on Lim for his slanderous statements made against my client on Feb 28 on two occasions, first in a press conference in Komtar and second at a Chinese New Year celebration at Penang Development Corporation,” he said.
Lim, he said, has 14 days from today to enter his statement of defence.
In the statement of claims, Abdul Azeez is demanding an apology from Lim over his slanderous statements made against him.
Jahaberdeen added that his client is also claiming damages.
“We filed the writ of summons and statement of claims last Friday and April 9 has been fixed for case management at the Penang High Court,” he said.
Abdul Azeez, who is also Umno MP for Baling had demanded an apology from Lim before filing the suit.
However Lim chose not to apologise, maintaining that he had merely asked the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) why Abdul Azeez was spared from being investigated.
