KUALA LUMPUR: Datuk Seri Abdul Azeez Abdul Rahim says he will sue Penang Chief Minister Lim Guan Eng for defamation over allegations that the Baling MP was linked to the Penang undersea tunnel and three main roads project.
At a press conference in Parliament on Tuesday, Azeez said his lawyer had sent two letters of demand to Lim yesterday, The Star reported.
“The first letter was sent to his office at 3.40pm while the second letter was sent to his residence in Pinhorn Road at 4.30pm.
“He has four days to retract and publicly apologise for his statements against me, Tabung Haji, Umno and the people of Baling. Otherwise I will proceed with legal action,” he said.
On Monday, Lim had urged the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) to arrest Azeez over claims that he had received RM3 million for “consultancy work in regulatory compliance and risk management” for the undersea tunnel project.
Azeez, in his letter of demand, also demanded that Lim give a formal declaration to never repeat the allegations and to reveal the source of his information, if any.
“In all his statements, he kept referring to me as the Baling Umno MP, and questioned my capabilities as Tabung Haji chairman.
“This legal action is not just about me, but it is about Tabung Haji and Umno as well and I have to defend this position,” he said.
